The BUCS Championships

Life On and Off the Golf Range - Sun, 03/15/2009 - 01:10

Great news from our son Andrew.

The Worcester university basketball team has reached the finals of the British universities championships. The final is today at 6pm French time and they will be playing against the London South Bank University.
Fingers crossed for a good game and a gold medal, C’MON Andrew C’MON, Worcester

NB:
The BUCS Championships is the pinnacle of the British universities sporting calendar. It’s where gold medals are won and lost and university rivalries re-emerge.
As the largest multi-sport event in Britain, the BUCS Championships brings together the top 5,000 student athletes from all over Great Britain.

Renovating and building in the South of France with Michele Wallace

Life On and Off the Golf Range - Sat, 03/14/2009 - 19:49
I went with Michele this morning to visit one of her current renovating projects; a fisherman’s house right on the waterfront. It’s a project that's behind schedule. Michele has consequently gone into over drive and for the past several weeks she has been on a mission to get it ready for the clients who arrive in April.

Photographs are taken and sent daily by email to the clients.

Don't argue with a women, I know this from experience!!

What a great place to sit and relax.

Classic 70's TV

Life On and Off the Golf Range - Fri, 03/13/2009 - 16:19

Fawlty Towers is a British sitcom made by the BBC and first broadcast on BBC2 in 1975. Only twelve episodes were ever produced, but the series has had a lasting and powerful influence on later shows.

The show is set in a fictional hotel Fawlty Towers in the Devon town of Torquay on the "English Riviera". The series was written by John Cleese and Connie Booth, both of whom played main characters, and was broadcast in two series: the first, in 1975, was produced and directed by John Howard Davies, and the second, in 1979, was produced by Douglas Argent and directed by Bob Spiers.

Lewis wallace - Beach boy

Life On and Off the Golf Range - Fri, 03/13/2009 - 14:59

I had a nice chat with my son Lewis today. He tells me that this week he is working for the French golf Federation at the national golf show in Paris and his thoroughly enjoying himself. He is also in talks with a French golf magazine to put together a series of tuition articles this summer based on a beach theme. I always said he was a bit of a beach boy!!

Mr L - Tomorrow morning we leave Dubai for Bali via Singapore

Life On and Off the Golf Range - Thu, 03/12/2009 - 10:55
Dubai

This is our first trip to Dubai and it is certainly beyond expectation for “ bling “.

The first experience is the new Emirates terminal that is all glass gold and mirrors! The beautiful marble floors led us to the Jumeirah lounge where we waited for our hotel car to take us to our hotel.

The Jumeirah Madinat hotel, belonging to the sheik of Dubai is a group of 4 hotels strung along the beach set in gardens and waterways. Everywhere is accessible by buggies and boats which come at your beck and call.

Our room is a villa with a private butler who does all restaurant reservations for you and calls for transport among many other services.

Our bedroom has a balcony on the waterway so you can sit and see the water taxis passing.

The first night we went to a sea food restaurant, in the complex, at the end of a pier. The main course was mixed fish comprising salmon, halibut, Snow Crab, Scallops and cooked oysters. It was fantastic.

The main problem is the wine! Even a cheap bottle is about 60 euros and is only sold in hotels as alcohol is banned in Dubai unless you are an ex-pat with a license to buy!

We have done a day trip to the city and it is full of beautiful buildings of amazing architecture and height but that is all to see except for the shopping malls which are full of amazing shops.

One mall even has an indoor ski slope!

Tomorrow morning we leave for Bali via Singapore to peace and quiet.

Mr. L

Hit more powerful drives by Mark Wallace PGA

Life On and Off the Golf Range - Tue, 03/10/2009 - 19:43

Great video of Ernie Els and Michelle Wie hitting a driver side by side in normal speed and slow motion.
There are lots of things to be learnt from this video but watch out for:
The massive upper body turn at the top of the backswing
The lower body stability during the backswing
The body weight over the right leg at the top of the backswing

If you can achieve these 3 elements you will be on the way to massively increasing
your club head speed at impact.

THE RESULT, LONGER AND STRAGHTER DRIVES!

We are back on our bikes!!

Life On and Off the Golf Range - Mon, 03/09/2009 - 15:56
Michele and I went for our first bike ride yesterday for 7 months!! It was something that we had been putting off for quite some time, but yesterday Michele decided that physically she was up for it and so off we went. The weather was fantastic, 22 degrees, bright sunshine and the cycle paths were empty.
Needless to say we had a great time and can't wait for the next trip.

A quick rest

Mr and Mrs L's Bali trip starts here

Life On and Off the Golf Range - Sun, 03/08/2009 - 12:20
After two months of disappointing weather here in The South of France my wife, Gaynor, and I have decided that enough is enough.
We are leaving for Bali, via Dubai, on Monday and will keep you updated on the trip and of course the food!
We are flying from Nice direct to Dubai where we are staying for 4 nights before spending 2 weeks in Bali with friends. Unfortunately your chief blogger Mark Wallace and his lovely wife Michelle cannot join us as Mark is required to stay “ by popular demand” from his students and Michelle is too busy in her business.

Bali is a very beautiful island with a year round temperature of around 30c due to being close to the equator. It is populated by mainly people of Hindu background and the form in Bali is very gentle and this reflects in the lovely attitude of the people.

Micka will of course be in safe hands as the the parents in Law will be dog/house sitting for us.

Hope you enjoy my reports on the trip.

Only discovered this article today on our son Andrew, can't believe he didn't send it to us.

AN international basketball player, studying at the University of Worcester, will attend a selection camp for the Great Britain team this summer.

If Andrew Wallace is selected, he will play in the Euro-pean Championships in Macedonia in the GB under 20s team. This could be a stepping stone to a possible place in the 2012 Olympic Games line-up.

Wallace, who plays for Worcester Wolves in the British Basketball League, is studying sports coaching Read more

Perfect conditions for a week of intensive golf tuition in the South of France

Life On and Off the Golf Range - Mon, 02/23/2009 - 20:58
By 9.30 this morning it had really warmed up on the range and the good news is that forecast is great for the rest of the week! After the horrible weather they have has back in Belgium this winter Pascal and friends were delighted to see blue skies and warm sunshine. Just perfect conditions for a week of intensive golf tuition.

We started with a warm up and stretching session followed by short game practice; Pitching, chipping etc.

Wouldn't it be great if they could be this accurate from 150m by the end of the week.

Then onto to swing practice with a CSWING video session
