The 8th of May 1945 Europe VE Day / Victory In Europe
The 8th May 1945 : Prime minister Churchill declared victory in Europe yesterday, celebrating the defeat of Nazi Germany.
The video below is in memory of my father Lewis Wallace DFC.It is in no way meant to glorify war; in fact it must have been terrifying to have experienced such horror. However it makes our family proud to know that because of young man like him, today we live in a free and democratic world.

Mr L on the Bello Visto - Gassin

This restaurant, set on a beautiful terrace in Gassin, is one that I have often visited in the summer as it has remarkable views over the Gulf of St Tropez. I once went there, in the winter, with some English friends and they refused to serve a Cote de Boeuf “ well done”, for my friends and I agreed with them totally as I also hate well cooked meat!
This weekend my wife and I had lunch there on May 1st ( Fete de Travail when nobody works!!). I started with the terrin de foise gras with fig jam and my wife had the fresh asparagus with a lovely cream sauce. They were both delicious!
For our main course I had the cote de boeuf with a moreille ( mushroom ) sauce, cooked blue and my wife had the rabbit also accompanied by a lovely sauce.
All in all the meal was delicious and the potatoes and vegetables served with the meals were both very tasty and decorative.

Mr L on the La Quinta, between Plan de La Tour and Grimaud

Have you ever driven along a road a hundred times and missed seeing something special? For me, who drives on the road between Plan de La Tour and Grimaud ( D44 ) after golf each afternoon in the summer, as it is the only shortcut that cuts out the coast road, this is the case.
The other day we were invited for lunch to a restaurant called La Quinta. I must have passed it and never noticed it.
It is set in the middle of the vineyards and the outside dining area overlooks the fields of vines and is next to a swimming pool.
My starter was fois gras on apple and black pudding ( boudin) . The fois gras was cooked to perfection and it was a terrific dish.
For my main course Lamb shank with spices in, on top of a very creamy mashed potato base, and for desert a delicious hot chocolate tartlets with a filling of fruit comfiture. Delicious!!
All in all a delicious meal and a restaurant I would thoroughly recommend.

Using your mobile abroad
Found this YouTube video on tips using your mobile phone abroad, it's not bad but my tips would be:
1/ Make sure your phone is unblocked and buy a local pay as you go SIM card.
2/ Leave a voice message on your original SIM card with your new SIM card number.
3/ Never, never, never use your mobile to connect to the internet
4/ Always use WIFI to connect your laptop to the internet, free WIFI hotspots can be found virtually everywhere these days.
4/ Install Skype on your laptop as its free to use if you are calling another Skype contact via their computer. You can also call mobiles and send sms/text messages at greatly reduced rates ,if you pay 4 Euros a month you can make unlimited calls to any fixed land line in Europe. Happy Easter from Sainte Maxime - Wish you were here
In all honesty the Easter weekend down here got off to a wet and overcast start. This afternoon however we went on a quick bike ride around Sainte Maxime and were kind of shocked to see how many people were on the beach, it was almost the twilight zone! People were actually swimming (must be Brits) and it was just like a August. Even Lady got involved.
